Life on the Outskirts: Manchester Workshop

Thursday 12th October 2017
11am to 3.15pm
Righton Open Foyer, Upstairs in the Righton Building, Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University

The ‘Life on the Outskirts’ project workshops are primarily aimed at students (undergraduate and postgraduate) undertaking some kind of creative practice. These will be practical sessions and collaboratively led by Dr Rob Knifton (University of Leeds) and Dr Alison Slater (Manchester Metropolitan University). We were pleased to have Prof. Helen Storey and Caroline Coates, from the Helen Storey Foundation, will informally participating in the event at Manchester.

The Manchester workshop participants will include BA (Hons) Fashion students, who have also been invited to take part in the mentoring programme which will run in tandem the project. Participants will be introduced to the Helen Storey Foundation archive and asked to interact with and respond to its content in creative ways.

Dr Hannah Allen will be in attendance in Manchester to encourage participants to think about creative responses to archival holdings. As visiting speaker, Dr Allan will be presenting ideas and inspiration from her research working with archives. The first student mentoring session will take place immediately after the workshop in each location.
