Life on the
outskirts

About the project

Presented by Helen Storey Foundation, University of Leeds and Manchester Metropolitan University, Life on the Outskirts is an AHRC-funded project about finding fresh creativity by revisiting past practice.

Over more than 30 years as a practitioner, Helen Storey has produced innovative, surprising, indispensable, beguiling, beautiful, and arresting creative responses to innumerable briefs and issues across fashion, society, art, and the environment. Her archive stands as case study and inspiration for this project, highlighting a pathway through the creative opportunities that archives can offer.

This website features:

  • A sample selection from the archive of Helen Storey Foundation highlighting key pathways through the material
  • A journal of project findings, student interactions with the archive and other gathered responses
  • Details of events where you can get involved with the project
